The enchanting island of Gran Canaria has 230 kilometers of coastline and some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.
Big, small, sand, rocks, beaches of all shapes and sizes and they all offer the perfect backdrop for a nice holiday in the sun. Perhaps you prefer to read a book in peace and quiet with the sound of the waves in the background? We have put together a list with the best that the island has to offer. From the inspiring view of the sand dunes of Maspalomas, the always popular Playa del Inglés, the beach with the romantic name Playa de Amadores (beach of lovers), or the calm and tranquility of San Agustín.
Playa de Arguineguín is only a ten minute walk from La Casa Canaria. A small and modest beach where you can practice various water sports. In addition, there is also a pleasant pedestrian boulevard and a fishing port with excellent fish restaurants and bars.
Maspalomas is simply beautiful and you have to see that to be able to believe! Fine white sand and white sculpted dunes stand out against the blue sea, a beautiful sight. Of course, a beach of this caliber is immensely popular, especially where the sunbeds are. Every 100 meters there is a kiosk where you can buy a snack. The beach of Maspalomas is divided into four parts: the first part is perfect for families with children. The two and the fourth are nudist zones and the third is popular with the gay scene.
Bounded by the beaches of San Agustín in the east and Maspalomas in the west, the 2.7 km long Playa del Inglés has the reputation of being one of the most famous beaches in Europe. Thanks to the mild climate of Gran Canaria and the “good feeling factor” that visitors find here, it is extremely popular throughout the year and is also the busiest tourist destination in all of Spain. The beach offers all kinds of relaxation and sports activities, including jet skiing, sailing, windsurfing, water skiing and much more. Simply put, it is true that wherever you feel like it or what you want to do … it is possible here! There are plenty of public toilets and showers along the beach, as are kiosks where drinks, ice cream and refreshments are sold. For disabled visitors there are several access points to the beach where ramps are located.
Playa de San Agustín is a very relaxed beach, much more quiet than Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. Visitors who do not feel like a crowd will love this dark-colored sandy beach – a place where you have enough space to lay down your towel, not to mention peace and quiet. At the weekend it gets a bit busier, if the local population benefits from the fact that they have such a nice and quiet beach on their doorstep. The beach is about 670 meters long. It is slightly sloping and well protected against the waves. This provides ideal conditions for snorkeling and scuba diving. There are a few excellent seafood restaurants on the boulevard, as well as a number of cafes, bars and shops. There are shower facilities at the edge of the beach.
Exactly between Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogán on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria lies the beautiful beach of Playa de Amadores. This wide bay, well protected from the ocean, has a golden beach of 800 meters and crystal clear water. Peaceful and relaxing, that is why it is also a favorite destination for couples who are looking for a romantic place to spend the day in the sun – it is no surprise that Playa de Amadores means “beach of lovers”. Ball games and listening to loud music are not allowed here and although the atmosphere is quiet, families with children come here. The sand is ideal for small children to run and play safely. Refreshing drinks, tapas and juicy sea animals are available in the extensive range of bars and restaurants directly behind the beach. Playa de Amadores received the prestigious Blue Flag award in 2004, a tribute to beaches that apply high quality standards in terms of water quality, environmental awareness, safety and management.
